This bracelet is handmade in my workshop from vegetable tanned leather. The veg tan leather hide has been cut to size, then hand finished.

Why is veg tan leather the eco-friendly choice?

Vegetable tanning, or veg tan as it’s sometimes called, is a natural process. It’s called “vegetable” because of the natural materials used in the tanning process like tree bark or plants.

Because of this, vegetable tanned leather develops a rich and beautiful patina, and actually gets better with time and use. It doesn’t crack or dry out and thus has a very long lifespan.

Vegetable tanning is totally eco-friendly, unlike the process of chrome tanning which creates toxic wastewater that has detrimental environmental impact, especially in the third world countries.

Caring for your leather article

Here are a few tips to keep your artisanal leather looking its best:

Don’t get it wet, particularly in the first month.
Keep your leather away from heat sources and never blow-dry it.
Don’t use brushes with synthetic bristles to clean it — only natural bristles should be used.
Use oil or conditioner made specifically for leather if the item is used frequently.
Wax occasionally to keep it in the best condition.
